Final Project Checklist
Student Choice Project 2018 germany videography work
For my self choice project I chose to create a video that reflected my whole trip to southern Germany the summer of 2017. This video brings me such joy to share with people as it shares nearly every moment of my 3 week long trip. Although the video ended up being 23 minutes long, the sequential events allows me to relive every moment. Even the parts of the trip that aren't reflected in the video are stuck in my mind because of the video.
Before I even stepped on the plane to fly from RDU to Atlanta then from Atlanta to the Frankfurt Airport, I knew I wanted to make a video of my trip. I researched the best option for recording video in a compact way and was able to borrow a coworker's point and shoot Canon camera. Although this camera isn't my favorite for actual shoots, the compact and small size was perfect for travel. The camera could easily fit in my purse and I was able to capture any video or image I wanted to.
Throughout the trip the hardest thing about taking the videos was getting interesting shots. In order to capture a visually interesting video required prior thought and preparation which sometimes took away from the live moment. Towards the beginning of the trip I felt self conscious because of how "touristy" I looked carrying a camera everywhere I went. This negative feeling soon passed when I realized how happy I will be once my video was complete.
When preparing the video, I used Adobe Premiere. This presented its own issues learning a new software however it was a learning experience that ended up teaching me so much. It took me over 2 weeks to finish the video due to the time it took to match up the videos with the audio.
Since the creation of this video I have been working on my videography skills, making them more professional (these videos can be seen on the page "videography works". Even though this video of my trip to Germany is exceptionally long and not my most aesthetically pleasing, the video best reflects my growth as an artist. This video introduced me to something that I am passionate about and I am proud of my growth in videography.
Included below are the links to the full Germany trip as well as a shorted version.
